I know it's been a little over a week. I apologize my friends. Sometimes life just gets in the way of life. I have been having a particularly difficult time this month getting any me time to post anything. You can call me Ellie Excuses, but it's been madness.
I've had hubby's B-Day, Mother's Day, a Beefsteak to attend, Iron Man to go see, car repairs to deal with and car rentals, gym twice a week, been out walkies a couple evenings, had to go to the doctor, weather changes requiring benadryll which puts me out, registering for BEA took a couple nights and researching the event has taken at least a couple more, still working 12 hours OT, have had a hockey game every other night, Dr Who to finish out for the season as well as Game of Thrones and when I am free for a few, I've been doing chores; laundry, spent a day sewing repairs to some of my favorite skirts, etc.
Where's the Me time?
I feel like I turn around and it is too late or I'm too tired if I have a minute to myself at all. I have only managed to read between periods on the games and at night by flashlight after hubby goes to sleep.
I feel horrible, guilty and somehow incomplete. I know blogging about books is a hobby, but I am amazed at how much it has come to mean to me, how important it is.
BEA is next week, so I am fairly certain things will continue to be madness until it is over. I will endeavor to post when I can before hand. I am still unprepared and have charts, maps and graphs still to print out complete with circles and arrows pointing to all the cool stuff.
If only I had a Marauder's map, but not one to tell me where everyone is, but one to tell me where all the cool stuff happening is right now. That would be awesome!
Anyway, I wanted to write a quick post to merely pose a question that came to me in the shower. And here it is.
If your house is on fire and you have 60 seconds to get out and you only have enough time to grab one book, what would that one book be?
I am going to have to think on that and I will let you know what I came up with.
But I am curious to know what book would you pick and why?

My place is pretty small right now, so I think I'd have the chance to grab a couple of handfuls. LOL. But, I don't know, maybe save my Kindle and laptop and then grab some of my printed favorites: sterkarm handshake and acheron. ;)

I was thinking about that which made me think of my books and which would be the most important one to me.
I was really interested to find out what other people would consider their favorite or most important book.
Obviously the Kindle would come with me as it barely leaves my side, but it will never replace the love I have for having a good book in my hands.

ReplyDeleteMy first thought was that no book was worth loosing what could be an 60 extra seconds to get out of a burning building, that most of my favourite books are replaceable but then I thought of the ones that weren't.
I doubt in the event of a real emergency I'd really be thinking about books at all, but as an exercise it was fun to think about it.
DeleteI have been collecting books since college and even have some from my youth, so after I dare not say how many years, I have amassed quite a wealth of books. While a large portion of them are available in one format or another, not all of them are replaceable. The majority are first editions, many long out of print, a few close to a hundred years old and a number of signed editions. Not to mention that the collection is not catalogued in any way.
Losing my books would be tragic. The alternative would be worse.
Still, I had fun playing.
That is a really hard question! I most def. would grab my Kindle since I have over 250 books on it :) As far as printed books go, one of my bookshelves is dedicated to nothing but my favorites so I would probably try to carry the whole bookshelf out!

I did come up with an answer, but it took 2 days to think about it.
BTW, the Kindle goes without saying, but I didn't really count that.

ReplyDeleteI have a book light, actually, but it seems dim and makes reading my Kindle, in particular, difficult to read. The flashlight works much better. He always says he doesn't mind if I leave the light on to read when he goes to sleep, but he starts thrashing about and I feel guilty. Hence, the blanket over my head with the flashlight.
