Stacking the Shelves - February 2, 2014

I cannot believe it is February already! January was a rough month and I think I'm glad it's over. I am already sick of the cold and sick of the snow. It has been an extreme winter for us. It's been a bit warmer here this weekend, but since we are close enough to the Atlantic, the cold is a damp cold. Also just found out the ceiling in the basement isn't insulated, so all that cold comes right up through the floorboards.

So, I had a little bit of a technical issue with my blog. I had been trying to load images to my posts for a couple weeks and I just couldn't get it to work. I kept rebooting my PC and nothing would work.

I made a To Do list. It currently has about 25 items on it. Of course, all these things were supposed to have been completed by last weekend; things like hanging up my clothes, folding laundry from the past couple weeks (it is laid out flat, but I haven't had the time to fold), write out bills, etc, all the way to taking down my Christmas decorations. I made a dentist's appointment, made lots of calls concerning medical bills for hubby, just so many things that all together are exceedingly time consuming. One of the things on the list was to figure out why I couldn't load images on my blog.

So I was playing around with my blog and again tried to load images and finally realized I was getting a message. I was being told that Blogger may not be compatible with my search engine. There was a link that took me to a page with a table that gave the categories of Windows, Mac and something else, can't remember now as I'm only concerned with Windows and it gave compatible search engines. The table indicated Internet Explorer 9 and 10 were compatible. When I asked hubby which version we were on, he advised we were on version 11. Huh. So I guess there was an Internet Explorer update because one day I could load pictures and one day I could not.

So, now I have to work on my blog on Google Chrome exclusively. The problem with Google Chrome is that I am now getting a message saying "Could not load Norton Identity Safe." So, I got that going for me. Riiight. I honestly cannot tell you why I have all these technical difficulties. Just suffice it to say I do and leave it at that.

Anyway, the mail carrier has decided once again to blank me and not deliver any parcels. Last week, I got a box of manga and a delicious goody box from my friend Terri over at Alexia's Books and Such (edible goodies, not the reading kind). This week, it has been a drought, though.

The one book I am really anxious to get my hands on? Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge. I had an opportunity about two months ago to order it at a decent discount, but couldn't figure out what to add to the purchase. Amazon raised their free shipping to $35.00 during Black Friday weekend, the sly boots. By the time I was ready to order, the price had dropped to 25% and has dropped more. I figured I would hold off because sometimes the new books are discounted heavily after their release date or the Kindle might drop. I am still waiting for a drop in price.

So I have had to content myself with eBooks this week. Amazon has had some nifty promotions. Besides the Daily Deals and Monthly Deals, they had the Big Deal (up to 85% off) and 20 Kindle books for $2.00. I have been in eBook heaven or perhaps eBook hell. More to come on this.

But let's get down to business.

    1. It was the cover that caught my eye. Then I read a sample. I really love the cover for Soar as well. I read that sample only to realize that this may the first book in a series, but it was a follow up series, so I had to download the whole first series. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I switched to Chrome awhile back and actually prefer it to IE now (but don't tell Google or they might get rid of it!). But yea that you were able to figure it out & can load pictures again!

As for your mailman, maybe you need to bribe him? I gave my mailman cookies over the holidays, as they poor guy delivers an awful lot of boxes for me. Real nice guy, but he calls me the Box Queen! *L*

    1. That is awesome!! The box queen!!! Bribes may be necessary. He is inconsistent, sometimes a deluge of boxes and sometimes a dirth. We need to strike a balance.

Just to add to the books I don't have time to read, I finally got my profile set up on Net Galley. It wasn't what I had been looking at before, so I have no idea where that screen came from. But profile was added and have requested 7 books. I don't expect to get them all, but it'd be nice to get at least one. Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

    1. I just couldn't get into her Tempest series, but I read a sample of this and I really liked it. Plus the price was right.

  4. Wow that's some week you have had, talk about busy. Fairly mild here in the north east of England we have yet to see any snow. Still, it being cold and wet is a perfect excuse to curl up with a book and a hot water bottle.

    1. It snowed again. I have lost count now. The snow is probably about a foot deep and is like magic shell for the lawn. I do try to curl up with a good book, but my cat likes me to be his personal electric blanket and he gets right in my face. Doesn't stop me from trying, though.
