Stacking the Shelves - August 3rd, 2014

As part of my continual clean-up process of all things book related, I have been ordering used copies of some of the older books I have on my wishlist in an effort to get my wishlist more current. I add an awful lot of books to my wishlist, a lot of books recommended from other bloggers, some that I find when searching other books, some that are special deals. Whatever the source, I am making an effort to not buy everything I have on my wishlist which means I have become a little more critical when reading samples. I really am trying to curtail the book buying somewhat.

I don't feel as guilty when I am buying something used, but I gotta say that what I consider to be a Very Good rating and what some of these used book dealers consider to be Very Good are not even in the same stratosphere. I guess that is the risk when you're buying used. I used to be one of those people that had to look at every copy on the shelf and pick the best one. Since I no longer work in a book store and can't always be picky, I have learned to adapt, but come on people. A book with a crease down the entire front cover is not a Very Good rating! But I digress...

Anyway, here is my cache for the past three weeks.

    1. I hope so as well. The Star Wars ones were quite funny. I'm not sure what to expect. It just sounded awesome and, you know, they're friends so...

  2. On the Fence was SOOOO good, I hope you enjoy it as well. Kasie West is just a phenomenal writer :) I grabbed Obisian as well. I haven't read the series yet, but I have heard so many great things about it, despite aliens not thrilling me I'm going to give it a try. I was actually so surprised when I seen that it was free on Kindle, I thought when I got to the purchase screen it would show a price... I was sure it was a mistake! I felt like that Ikea commercial, "Start the car!".. haha.

I agree about used books, sometimes people have very skewed views on what a good condition book is lol.

I hope you have an awesome week and enjoy all your books :)

    1. I was hesitant about the Lux series as well because of the Alien angle. I downloaded a sample of the first book and it really caught me right up. I started the Covenant series once I was caught up with the Lux series. Also very good, but I found that I liked the Lux series better.
You really should give it a read. Enjoy!

  3. I know just what you mean. My husband recently ordered an out of print text book which was said to be in perfect condition. When it came there were inked quotes in the margins and whole pages had been hi-lighted in bright green marker.

Loving the cover of The First Time. Happy reading.

    1. It is really disappointing when that happens. I used to be so meticulous about my book covers, but since Amazon dropped their discount rate and hubby is a full time student with only army retirement, I just can't afford to buy books like I used to.
I figure I can buy more used than I can new. So beggars can't really be choosers. It's the risk I take when I order used, but I still can't help being disappointed.
